Pharmaceutical Technology Laboratory

The Pharmaceutics Lab at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Qasyoun Private University, is one of the most important advanced specialized laboratories, serving as a bridge between theoretical chemical and pharmaceutical sciences and the practical pharmaceutical industry. The lab focuses on the synthesis of various pharmaceutical dosage forms, the study of their physicochemical properties, and the development of drug delivery systems.

Lab Objectives:

Training in pharmaceutical synthesis and manufacturing: Equipping students with the practical skills to prepare different dosage forms (solid, liquid, and semi-solid).

Quality control and monitoring: Training students in pharmacopoeia tests (according to international pharmacopoeias such as USP and BP) to ensure the quality of pharmaceutical preparations.

Understanding Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP): Applying sound hygiene, sterilization, and titration practices during pharmaceutical preparation processes.

Essential Equipment and Facilities:

The lab is equipped with modern equipment that simulates production and control lines in pharmaceutical laboratories:

Solid Dosage Equipment:

Tablet Press Machines. Tablet hardness and friability testers.

Disintegration and dissolution testers.

Tablet coating unit.

Equipment for semi-solid and liquid forms:

High-speed mixers and homogenizers.

Viscometers.

Surface tension and particle size measurement devices.

Sterilization and aseptic preparation equipment:

Autoclaves and dry heat sterilizers.

Laminar flow cabinets for preparing eye drops and injectable solutions.

General measuring instruments: Precision analytical balances, pH meters, and agitated water baths. Practical Courses and Activities

The laboratory covers the practical aspects of pharmaceutical technology and pharmaceutics courses throughout the study period:

Liquid and Semi-Solid Dosage Forms:

Preparation of solutions, syrups, and drops.

Formulation and stability testing of suspensions and emulsions.

Preparation of ointments, creams, gels, and suppositories.

Solid Dosage Forms:

Dry and direct free granulation processes (Granulation & Compression).

Tablet compression and filling of hard and flexible capsules.

Conducting quality control tests on the final product (weight, hardness, disintegration time, and release rate).

Modern Pharmaceutical Technologies:

Study of controlled and sustained release systems.

Study of targeted drug delivery systems. Quality and Safety Standards

The laboratory adheres to strict standards that ensure a safe working environment comparable to pharmaceutical manufacturing standards:

Strict adherence to full laboratory attire (white lab coat, head covering, gloves, and masks when handling powders).

Following regular cleaning and sterilization protocols for equipment and work surfaces.

Accurate documentation of preparation steps and quality control test results in operating logs.
