The Phantom Head Lab/Simulation Lab at the Faculty of Dentistry, Qasyoun Private University, provides an advanced clinical simulation environment that serves as a bridge for students from theoretical knowledge to direct clinical treatment on patients. It allows students to practice on mannequins and phantom heads that mimic the real-life dental clinic environment.

General Objectives of the Lab:

Pre-clinical Training: Acquiring the necessary manual and technical skills for dental treatment before interacting with real patients.

Mastering Ergonomics: Training students in proper sitting postures and viewing dental fields in a mirror to ensure the health of the spine and musculoskeletal system.

Developing Tactile Senses and Precision: Familiarizing students with the texture of resistant dental tissues and the sequence of using rotary and rapid instruments (turbines and micromotors).

Available Equipment and Technologies:

Phantom Units: Flexible simulation heads containing artificial rubber jaws and cheeks, adjustable and tiltable to match the patient's head position in the clinic. Dental typodons: Jaw models containing artificial teeth with a hardness and comfort that mimics natural teeth (enamel and dentin) for preparation and drilling procedures.

Rotating instruments and lighting: High-speed (Turbine) and slow-speed (Micromotor) handpieces equipped with lighting and cooling water sprays, in addition to focused clinical lighting for each work unit.

Suction and evacuation systems: Simulation devices for water and saliva suction to practice managing dry dental fields during treatments.

Training topics and skills:

Operative Dentistry:

Training in drilling and preparing dental cavities of various classifications (Class I-V).

Applying restorative materials (amalgam, composite), shaping margins, and polishing.

Fixed Prosthodontics: Preparing and reducing teeth to receive crowns and bridges. Mastering various finish lines and ensuring axial parallelism.

Preclinical Endodontics:

Opening the pulp chamber (access cavity) on artificial teeth or extracted natural teeth.

Determining, cleaning, and shaping the root canals using manual and rotary instruments, followed by obturation.

Quality and Safety Standards

Control and Sterilization Procedures: Training students to apply infection control protocols and sterilize instruments in accordance with clinical standards.

Continuous and Accurate Evaluation: Measuring preparation thicknesses and cavity dimensions using wicks and micrometers to ensure the required microscopic accuracy in dental treatments.
